Fair of Saint Lucia

On December 13th, Santa Lucia is celebrated with a fair that enlivens the central Paleocapa street with over one hundred stalls of Christmas decorations, sweets and clothing.
For the Savonesi, the arrival of this date means only one thing: prepare the crib.
Historical facts
The Fair of Saint Lucia has its roots in ancient folk traditions, linked to the Saint (Lucia) protector of the eyes and the blind, symbol of light and the winter solstice.
The church of Santa Lucia has always been a particularly beloved place by the people of Savona, who traditionally went there on 13 December for pilgrimage. This ancient custom is the origin of the highly anticipated event that we know today: along the path to the church, the faithful met numerous stalls, where it was possible to buy sacred images, sweets and figurines for the crib.
