Sacred in the city
Savona is also known as the “City of Popes” and appropriately the city boasts a wealth of fine religious architecture which attracts many visitors every year.
As well as the famous cathedral complex which also includes the city’s own Sistine Chapel, the Museum of the Treasure, and the Apartment of Pope Pius VII, the oratories are worthy of a special mention, famous across Liguria for their processional caskets, a fine example of the devout religious lay order.
