As you wander through the historic old town of Savona, at a certain point you will catch the inviting aroma of freshly baked focaccia in the air. You have stumbled upon the city’s market, the place to come if you love fresh, high-quality food.

Enter from either the Via Pietro Giuria or Corso Mazzini sides to explore this cornucopia of colours and flavours. The baker’s stalls are piled high with fragrant fresh bread and focaccia, whilst the butchers and fishmongers offer delicious cuts of locally sourced meat and fish straight from the Mediterranean.

There is a whole host of stalls selling fruit and vegetables where you can find local seasonal produce, as well as cheese and cured meats, for an authentic taste of Liguria.

But there is more to the market than just food! Inside there is also a friendly bar serving fresh Italian coffee or you can sit down for pre-dinner drinks overlooking the Priamar Fortress. In short, if you are looking for the authentic way to experience Italian food culture, Savona’s Mercato Civico is the place to come!

The market hall is a riot of flavours and mouthwatering aromas.
