The Museum of the Treasure of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption, founded in 1982, is home to an important collection of religious art: paintings, detached frescoes, sculptures and other liturgical objects from the cathedral and some of the religious buildings in the local area which have either been destroyed or deconsecrated.

The paintings (from the 15th and 16th century) include works from Tuccio d’Andria, Giovanni Mazone, Lodovico Brea and the “Adoration of the Magi” triptych by Master of Hoogstraten, dating back to 1519.

The silverware includes the reliquary of the cross, the jewellery of Bishop Gara from the 13th century, and the Gothic-temple-shaped monstrance from 1476 and the group with the “Flight to Egypt”.

There are numerous holy vestments, including the chasuble of Julius II from 1491 and the Ternary, perhaps part of the cloak of the Queen of Spain. In recent years a lot of work has been carried out to improve the climate control in the building to better preserve and protect the exhibits.
