The Museo D’Arte Palazzo Gavotti is located in the city centre, near the Duomo and the Cappella Sistina. It showcases ancient and modern masterpieces of the Pinacoteca Civica and the 20th-century art works of the Milani Cardazzo Collection. It also houses the new Museo della Ceramica, in the splendid venue of the ancient Monte di Pietà.

In addition to the collections on display, the building itself is impressive: a Renaissance-style palace, built between 1570 and 1580 by the Gavotti family on the site of pre-existing medieval buildings.

In the 18th century, it was donated to the Opera Pia di Nostra Signora di Misericordia (Charity of Our Lady of Mercy) to host illustrious guests who visited the Sanctuary of Savona.

The palace was modified in the 19th century, with the reconstruction of the façade and the opening of an atrium and a passage connecting Piazza Chabrol with Via Pia.
